see it. respect it. live it.

Welcome to Respect the Sparkle!

Hello!

This is a shiny new blog. A sparkly one, even. And it’s sparkly for a reason. Wait ’til I tell you, guys – I’m so excited about this new venture! But first, a little bit about me.

My name’s Lucy, and among other things, I’m a writer, astrologer, wombat lover, and a respecter of all things sparkle-oriented. I’m a Londoner (I was born here, I live here, London’s in my blood) and a helper mouse and a feminist. Things I consider sparkly include: boy bands, gay erotica, science fiction, action movies, writing… and plenty more.

And this blog is going to combine the feminism and the sparkly stuff.

Yeah.

What I’m interested in is – things that women are interested in them. Women’s hobbies. Women’s passions. Women’s ideas. It strikes me that these things are often crazy cool and I would like to know why society as a whole (for the feminists among you, you can read: patriarchy) looks down on them. But more than that, I want to know how we can pay more attention to them. How we can give them more respect.

So that’s what this blog is for. Why sparkle? Because the things that we women are interested in, they often do sparkle. Either in a visual sense (boy bands! Glittery nail polish! Jewellery!) or in a more metaphorical one (you know what I’m talking about. Your thing. Yeah, you right there. Your art or writing or healing or singing or whatever it is you do. It sparkles).

And why respect? Because we deserve it. Because it’s not less worthy of respect than men’s interests. It’s not less worthy of respect just because it happens to glitter, because it’s not beige and grey and dark blue. It’s not less because the channels for our passions are different than men’s, or because we express those passions differently.

I’m no expert on this topic. I started this blog because I’m curious, and because I’m passionate – about feminism, about getting empowered, and about finding where the sparkle is so that I can pull more of it into my life. I love the sparkle.

Do you? If you do, I hope you’ll be coming along for the ride.

Welcome.
